Collaboration with Amsterdam Tramharmonie

On January 26, the Amsterdam wind orchestra Tramharmonie took the stage at Paradiso to pay tribute to the arts. With contributions of poet Ellen Deckwitz, violinist Pauli Paananen, dancer Albert Garcia Ordinas and myself. Under the baton of conductor Hardy Li, the orchestra performed works by Saint-Saëns, Satie, Holst, and more, collaborating with the four guests.

Synergy
It was a day I will not easily forget: to be in a packed Paradiso, witnessing the synergy of music and visuals unfold above the heads of the musicians of the Tramharmonie, was an incredibly rewarding experience.

Setting the Table
For this event, I created a new video piece (‘Setting the Table’) specifically to accompany the orchestra’s live performance of Venus from The Planets by Gustav Holst.

The piece began with a brief moment on stage where I lip-synced a sentence from an etiquette handbook, which lingered throughout the piece. From there, it evolved into a choreography of tableware and placeholders, playfully exploring visual representations of the solar system.

The connection between sound and image became palpable, drawing the audience’s attention in ways I had not anticipated.

I am deeply grateful to the Amsterdam Tramharmonie and especially Martijn, Carla and Loes for inviting me to contribute to this extraordinary project. Creating a work for such an occasion was a real challenge, but seeing it come to life was incredibly rewarding and opens up new possibilities and perspectives for my practice.

A special thank you to conductor Hardy Li for his impeccable timing, and to every member of the Tramharmonie for their dedication, skill, and patience.

And a big shoutout to the fellow artists who contributed to this program: poet Ellen Deckwitz, dancer Albert Garcia Ordinas and violinist Pauli Paananen. It was an honor to collaborate with all of you!
